George I carved walnut & needlework foot stool

Stock Code: 2085 - SOLD

Description: A superb George I carved walnut & needlework foot stool, retaining excellent colour and patina. The stool has four delightfully and crisply carved cabriole legs the scrolling hips carved in the manner of an opening flower, with a carved acanthus leaf to the knee with trailing inter-twined ribbons below, with a carved scrolling edge terminating in a pad foot.

The legs support an over-stuffed stool, which is covered with an 18th century needlework and held in place by brass closing nailing around the periphery.

A particularly fine example, of note is the most unusual form to the top of the legs and the excellent carved detailing throughout.

Condition: Excellent. Minor old restorations, waxing. The needlework is most likely a later replacement, though from the same century probably some 60-70 years later.
