Regency rosewood & brass inlaid centre table attributed to Gillows of Lancaster

Stock Code: 2189 - SOLD

Description: A fine Regency George IV, rosewood and brass inlaid centre table, very probably made by Gillows of Lancaster. The tilting, well figured circular top cross banded with rosewood and with an inner brass inlaid floral banding, the frieze with lower gadrooned edge. The table is supported by a tapering hexagonal, gadrooned collar centre column supported on a gadrooned and panelled tri-partite base, with bold acanthus & hairy paw carved feet. The table has excellent colour and patina throughout.

Further Information: Gillows of Lancaster were probably the most celebrated of all English furniture makers. They were established in the early 18th century, and pieces made by Gillows are very desirable and extremely sought after. This particular table eschews quality cabinet making all over. With detailing like gadrooning to the centre column and around the base, together with the crisply carved acanthus & hairy paw feet, this fine fine quality would be indicative of manufacture by Gillows or a top London maker.
