Description: A delightfully happy and bright coastal scene of a fairground most likely observed in Cornwall, the adopted home of Manchester born artist Simeon Stafford.
Further Information: Simeon Stafford was born in Dukinfield (near Manchester) in 1956. He moved to Cornwall in 1996. At the of age of 14 he met L.S Lowry who encouraged him to paint. Lowry later became a family friend and remains a constant source of inspiration to him. Simeon’s work is light hearted, there are no dark overcast days, political content or deep soul searching angst. He comments ‘we have enough of that in the world of news today.’ Simeon’s world of pictorial imagery is a world of humour and fun, an essence of spontaneity that is joyfully translated to the viewer.
Simeon Stafford is an observer of life, his paintings are crammed full of incidents and accidents, bustling scenes of human interaction, a happy dialogue of work and play. Subjects include docks and their workers, holiday seaside scenes and streets crammed with children playing. There is a nostalgic echo to these paintings, an essence that captures the excitement and expectation, of a day seen through a child’s eyes. These paintings nurture the child within us all. Simeon has held exhibitions throughout the country and has had paintings exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Show. His work can also be found in numerous private collections including Her Majesty The Queen and ex prime minister Tony Blair.
