Description: A pair of George III mahogany hall chairs in the manner of Ince & Mayhew, retaining excellent original colour and patina. The oval backs with central oval sycamore inlaid panel, with a moulded radiating fan design extending from the centre to the edge of each chair. The seat section of shaped tapering rectangular form with a circular central moulded seat section. Each chair is supported on square section tapering legs.

Further Information: This pair of hall chairs exhibit many of the features of known designs from the workshops of Ince & Mayhew. William Ince & John Mayhew were partners in business from 1759 until 1804 and probably the longest partnership known. In 1763, they published The Universal System of Household Furniture, dedicating it to the Duke of Marlborough. It contained around 300 designs, some of which followed the fashions established by Chippendale.

Condition: Excellent. Possible minor old restorations, waxing.
