Description: A fine wonderfully figured, patinated George III mahogany serpentine sideboard of compact dimensions, attributed to Gillows of Lancaster, utilising excellent quality mahogany throughout. The well figured flame mahogany top shaped with straight back and sides, moulded edge and a bold serpentine shaped front. The central bow shaped frieze drawer, with beautifully carved brackets to the underside, flanked by a pair of cellaret configured drawers, this time with an inset curve. All drawers are fitted with the classic Gillows gilt brass offset handle. The sideboard is supported on square section tapering legs terminating in spade feet. A fabulous piece of excellent quality throughout, beautiful figuring and lovely patina.

Further Information: Gillows of Lancaster were one of the most celebrated of all English furniture makers. They were established in the early 18th century, pieces made by Gillows are of the highest quality, desirable and extremely sought after. The handles on this piece were exclusively used by Gillows on many pieces of their cabinet furniture in the late 18th century.

Condition: Excellent. Possible old restorations, waxing. Brassware apparently original.
