Description: An exceptionally fine George III compact mahogany breakfront bookcase, possibly from the workshops of Thomas Chippendale.
The breakfront form, glazed upper split into three sections, with astragal glazed doors opening to reveal adjustable shelving now covered in a cream silk fabric. Above the ogee and arched split acorn relief moulded cornice, split into a vertical breakfront form. Below the centre section with opening secretaire drawer with an arrangement of drawers and pigeon holes over a opening cupboard section with a further adjustable shelf and flanked with four drawers to each side, fitted with gilt brass ring handles standing in a plinth base.

Further Information: The design, configuration and construction of this piece exudes quality throughout. Of particular note is the compact size, being only 70” wide, and the extremely well executed modular construction. The back boards are raised and fielded and the rear of the piece is painted with a pink wash which was a known feature of pieces made in C

Condition: Excellent. Minor old repairs and restorations. Gilt brass handles later.
