Description: A fine George III, Chippendale period mahogany pedestal desk, retaining excellent colour and patina. The rectangular top with inset tooled green leather writing surface and moulded edge. The frieze fitted a pair of long drawers and opposing dummy drawers, over three graduated drawers to each pedestal, fitted with the apparently original gilt brass swan neck handles. The opposing side of each pedestal with a full height door, with applied raised moulding, opening to reveal a shelved cupboard inside. An applied moulding is also fitted to the lower circumference of the top part of the desk which structurally delineates the piece beautifully. The ends are fitted with a large brass swan neck carrying handle and each pedestal is fitted with a moulded mahogany plinth.
Further Information: This piece demonstrates superb constructional quality throughout and is typical of the types of desk often made by makers like Thomas Chippendale for important houses.
Condition: Excellent. Minor old restorations, waxing. The leather replaced within the last 20 years.
