George III carved mahogany piecrust tripod table

Description: A fine George III carved mahogany piecrust tripod table retaining excellent original colour and patina. The well figured top with a crisply carved and moulded “piecrust” edge, with a “snap top” supported by a revolving birdcage action. The column of tapering form, the upper section fluted, with the lower section of vase form, profusely carved with scrolling acanthus leaves, with a carved ring below. The table is supported on a tripod base, each leg profusely carved with acanthus leaves from the hip to the knee and terminating in a carved ball and claw foot.

A fabulous table, of compact proportions, the top unusually made in the form of a slight oval, the piece apparently in fine original condition throughout.

Condition: Excellent. Possible minor old restorations, waxing.
