Description: A fine George II Irish mahogany silver table. The tray top with a lipped outer edge and re-entrant corners. The frieze of well figured mahogany constructed in a segmented fashion and with a convex lower edge, rounded corners and with scallopped lower edge. There is a carved shell central to each long side of the frieze. The table is supported by tapering, carved cabriole legs with a carved shell to the hips and with c-scrolls extending into the frieze. The legs terminate in a delicate leaf carved trefid foot. A lovely table of excellent rich colour, a very good example of Irish tables of this period.
Further Information: This table follows closely the from and design of similar pieces depicted in the book “Irish Furniture” by The Knight of Glynn and James Peill. Whereas the carved shell motifes are often found on Irish furniture of this period the delicate carved “trefid” foot is quite rare.
