Description: A superb George II carved walnut upholstered settee with excellent crisp carving and detailing. The serpentine shaped upholstered back, with scroll shaped carved walnut arms with a leaf carved elbow rest and flowing into a tightly scrolled carved eagles head. The arms are supported by a C-shaped scroll crisply carved with acanthus leaves co-joining the seat rail. The settee is supported by three cabriole shaped legs, profusely carved with acanthus leaves to the knees and terminating in a ball and claw foot. The rear is supported by three delightfully raked back legs, which terminate in rectangular shaped pad foot. The sofa is covered in a 20th century crewel work which has been hand woven in the English 18th century style.
A fabulous piece of furniture of extremely convenient size, apparently in excellent original condition, the walnut with fine colour and patina throughout.
Condition: Excellent. Possible minor old restorations, waxing. The seat rails in apparently excellent original condition.
