George I walnut chairback settee

Description: A very good George I walnut chair back settee, retaining excellent original colour and patina. The wide back with gentling curving top rail, is divided into two sections each with vase shaped splats veneered in fine figured walnut. The splats with neatly carved scrolled hips and surmounted by scrolls to the top of the central vase section where it joins the top rail of the settee. From each side of the back, eminates a gently curving, moulded arm rest which joins the walnut veneered seat rail on each curved side. The setee is supported by three cabriole legs to the front, with carved shell knees, scroll edged thighs and pad feet. To the rear three cabriole legs form the support for the settee. The drop in seat is now covered with a 19th century needlework.

This chairback settee is full of delightful curved surfaces, it is very elegantly proportioned and in fine condition throughout.

Condition: Excellent. Minor old restorations, repair to one back leg, waxing. The needlework 19th century.
