Description: A fine George I figured walnut & feather banded bureau of excellent small proportions, being only 31" wide.
The top central figured panel, bordered by feather banding and cross-banded in walnut, below the fall again with central figured panel, cross banded in walnut bordered either side by inlaid feather banding. The fall opens to reveal a stepped interior with a central door inlaid with arched chequered stringing, four chequered strung doors an arrangement of eight pigeon holes with central well with sliding cover.
Below the fall the frieze has a further figured walnut panel bordered by feather banding, bordered by a pair of lopers. Below three graduated feather banded drawers, fitted with brass plate handles and escutcheons, the bureau supported on bracket feet.
A fabulous piece of furniture, of particular note is the fantastic colour, patina and attractive interior.
Condition: Excellent. The bureau has been cleaned and waxed. Minor restorations to small pieces of veneer, other old minor restorations. The handles are replacements, the feet apparently original.
