Description: A superb English George I burr walnut & feather banded bureau bookcase. The top with feather banded broken arch moulded pediment, surmounted by three giltwood flame finials. The bevelled mirror doors open to reveal a stunning fully fitted concave interior with an arrangement of pigeon holes, drawers, folio slides and candle slides below.
The lower half in two sections, split by a dividing cross grained waist moulding, with double feather banded fall opening to reveal a further arrangement of drawers, pigeon holes and several secret compartments, with a green leather lined writing surface. Below a burr walnut frieze bordered by a pair of retractable lopers, below two short over two long, graduated burr walnut oak lined drawers, fitted with engraved brass plate handles. The bookcase is supported on shaped bracket feet.
A truly wonderful piece, exuding quality throughout in its construction, features and choice of veneers; the piece retains excellent colour and patina.
Condition: Excellent. Minor restorations, waxing. Brassware and locks apparently original. Mirror plates probably re-silvered
