Description: A fine George I figured walnut compact chest of excellent colour and patina. The top of rectangular form, quarter veneered, cross and feather banded, with cross grain moulded edge. Beneath the bottom drawer a further cross-grain moulding around the perimeter, the chest being supported on elegantly shaped bracket feet.
Further Information: Small walnut chests such as this, are highly sought after. This chest has a particularly good patina and ‘skin’ which is commensurate with a well used yet cared for life. The use of top quality figured veneers to the top and drawer fronts is highly desirable attribute and is indicative of quality. The 18th century cabinet maker has obviously made considerable effort to obtain veneers which look so well when laid down on this chest.
