Description: A fine George III Chippendale period mahogany fold-over top bachelor chest. The solid rectangular mahogany top with moulded edge over a long oak lined mahogany top drawer, bordered by retractable lopers, over two further graduated long drawers, all fitted with original gilt brass handles. The chest is supported by shaped bracket feet, which run on original hidden castors.
Further Information: The red wash on the underside, the laminated blocks to the feet and the high quality gilt brass handles are characteristic features of a number of pieces of mahogany furniture at Dumfries House, Ayrshire, which were attributed to 'The Dumfries House Cabinet-Maker' - possibly Thomas Chippendale.
Condition: Excellent. Possible minor old restorations, waxing.
