Description: A fabulous English George I burr walnut compact caddy top compact chest, of superb original colour & patina. The rectangular top quarter veneered with burr walnut and with an inset feather banded border. Below a walnut veneered brushing slide with an arrangement of two short over three long feather banded, quadrant beaded oak lined drawers with original brass plate handles and escutcheons, bordered by sides of book matched figured walnut veneers. The chest stands on shaped bracket feet.
A very fine, rare piece, retaining excellent colour and basically in superb original condition. The brushing slide is veneered in walnut, noted to be a rare and sophisticated feature, the use of burr veneers to the top and drawer fronts is another feature indicative of quality, all pointers to the chest being manufactured by a top maker.
Condition: Excellent. Minor restorations, waxing. Brassware believed to be original. Feet original, however possibly slightly reduced in height.
