Description: A fine Irish George II Cuban mahogany linen press on stand. The top section a dentil and moulded cornice, with a pair of rectangular raised and fielded, beautifully figured doors, suspended by a rule joint hinge which allows the doors to support when fully open the inner sliding shelves, when pulled out for access to the press contents. One central shelf remains fixed for rigidity. The cupboard section stands on a base with a pair of oak lined drawers, a lovely scalloped shape frieze, a prominent, large, central carved shell to the centre of the frieze and stands on chamfered square section legs. A tremendous piece with fabulous original colour and patina, exuding quality throughout.

Further Information: This press follows closely the format of simlar pieces of furniture illustrated in The Knight of Glin and James Peill's book "Irish Furniture". The central prominent carved shell is one of the most popular decorative features of Irish furniture of this period.

Condition: Excellent. Minor restorations, waxing. Brassware apparently original.
