Description: A fine George I figured walnut & feather banded bureau bookcase. The bookcase section with swan neck pediment, of shaped cavetto section, cross & feather banded with and inset glass lozenge panel set within a bold cross grain moulding. The beautifully fitted interior with an arrangement of drawers, pigeon holes, and folio shelves with a central cupboard. The bookcase is enclosed by a pair of shaped arch doors, with bevelled mercury slivered mirror plates, with candle slides below.
The bureau section with a dividing cross grained waist moulding, with feather & cross banded fall opening to reveal a further arrangement of concave drawers, pigeon holes, and again with a central cupboard. The inside of the fall has an inset leather working surface. Below a figured walnut frieze with two short drawers and a pair of retractable lopers, over three long, graduated feather banded, oak lined drawers, fitted with apparently the original brass plate handles. The bookcase is supported on shaped bracket feet. A piece of excellent proportions and with quality construction throughout, it uses choice veneers and retains excellent colour and patina.
Condition: Excellent. Minor restorations to chipped veneers, cleaning, waxing. Mirror plates and handles apparently original.
