Description: A fine George III Sheraton period satinwood and tulipwood banded Bonheur du Jour by Gillows of Lancaster. This piece sometimes known as a "Cheveret", is veneered in the finest West Indian satinwood and retains excellent colour and patina.

The removable bookcase section with a shelf and an arrangement of four drawers with ivory knob handles, the edges all cross banded in tulipwood and strung with box. The desk section with an opening flap, supported by retractable lopers, over a frieze with integral drawer (stamped Gillows Lancaster) to the front fitted with original Gillows brass ring handles. Each section to frieze and the edges of the top are all cross-banded with tulipwood and strung with box and ebony. The table is supported by square section, ebony strung tapering satinwood legs.

Further Information: Gillows of Lancaster were one of the most celebrated of all English furniture makers. They were established in the early 18th century, pieces made by Gillows are of the highest quality, desirable and extremely sought after. This lady's work-table relates to the Gillows design for a satinwood and tulipwood banded "Sheveret" table of 1790 in Lindsay Boynton's - Gillow Furniture Designs 1760-1800.

Condition: Excellent. Possible minor old restorations, waxing. Brassware apparently original.
