Regency Rosewood breakfront side cabinet in the manner of Gillows of Lancaster

Description: A fine Regency rosewood breakfront side cabinet attributed to Gillows of Lancaster, retaining excellent original colour and the original gallery. The whole cabinet veneered with well figured rosewood, the gallery shelf supported by turned rosewood pilasters, the top with banded edge, the frieze bordered by with a moulded top and gadrooned beaded lower edge. Centrally a pair of rectangular doors, with inset fluted silk and brass lattice work, bordered either side by turned pillars. The doors open to reveal a cupboard with adjustable shelves. The lower plinth with gadrooned top edge.

Further Information: Gillows of Lancaster were one of the most celebrated of all English furniture makers. They were established in the early 18th century, pieces made by Gillows are of the highest quality, desirable and extremely sought after. This breakfront side cabinet follows closely to designs drawn in the Gillows workbook for this period.

Condition: Excellent. Minor old restorations, waxing. The door silks are old replacements.
