A pair of Irish George III mahogany brass bound plate buckets

Description: A fine pair of Irish George III mahogany brass bound plate buckets, of good original colour and patina. The buckets of tapering circular shape, of coopered construction with three concentric brass retaining rings, the upper with a bow shaped bracket on opposing sides fitted with a shaped brass carry handle. Each bucket also has a tapering slot to allow easy loading and removing of plates.

Further Information: Buckets of this type were generally used in the country houses of Britain and Ireland for carrying larger quantities of plates by servants from the butler?s pantry to the dining table, when setting for dinner. They were often left in the dining room during the meal so were made to good quality and attractive form as they would be seen by the master and the lady of the house.

Condition: Excellent. The buckets have been waxed, possible minor old restorations.
