A pair of Chippendale period mahogany side chairs

Description: A fine pair of George II period mahogany side chairs in the manner of Thomas Chippendale. The backs with shaped and crisply carved top rail with central leaf crest and further emanating leaves terminating in a tight upswept scroll ends. The central vase shaped, lattice work formed vertical splat with overlapping entities and tight carved scrolls, central knot twist and lower carved scroll supports, the side rails shaped and reeded throughout. The seat is newly covered in a bold 18th century pattern tapestry fabric. The front legs of cabriole form with floral carved knees terminating in a ball and claw foot, the back legs of a gentle cabriole form with a shaped pad foot. Fine quality chairs with excellent colour and patina.

Condition: Excellent. Minor restorations, waxing. The seats have been re-covered in a new 18th century pattern fabric.
