George III Irish mahogany serpentine tripod silver table

A rare and unusual piece

Stock Code: 2506

Description: A rare and very unusual Irish George III mahogany serpentine centre pedestal silver table. The solid figured mahogany top with serpentine shaped long sides, straight short sides and four outset corners. A pierced fretwork upstanding gallery surrounds the permitter. The top is supported by a tapering fluted and ring turned column, standing on a tripod base of acanthus carved cabriole legs with a Chippendale style curled toe and fitted with castors.

Further Information: This unusual table almost certainly find its origins in the island of Ireland. Whilst basically the manner of Thomas Chippendale, the unusual form and quirky nature of this lovely piece certainly lends itself to our attribution. The quality of carving is excellent and the fretwork gallery follows Chippendale’s tradition of being constructed of three pieces of mahogany laminated together. A lovely piece.
