Description: A superb pair of George III Regency period, rosewood, brass mounted and inlaid side cabinets attributed to John McLean. The cabinets basically of rectangular form with curved out-set front corners, with elegant brass mountings to the shoulder. The frieze with two drawers inlaid with brass with a central brass bordered applied mask. Below a pair of doors again brass mounted and inlaid opening to reveal a interior cupboard. The cabinets are supported on front paw feet and rear turned feet. Each cabinet is surmounted by a twin shelf mirror backed gallery, with pierced brass and pillared sides. These important pieces are exceptional quality and stand impressively well.

Further Information: John McLean (1770-1825): John McLean was an English furniture maker and designer influenced by the style of the late Louis XVI. John McLean and Son were cabinet-makers of the highest caliber, and were patronised by leading connoisseurs such as the 5th Earl of Jersey, for whom they worked extensively at Middleton Park, Oxfordshire, and at the Earl’s London mansion in Berkeley Square. Examples of McLean’s furniture can be found in the Victorian and Albert Museum, The California Palace of the Legion of Honor and the Library at Saltram, Devon.

Condition: Excellent. Minor restorations, waxing. Mirror plates apparently original. Minor differences in cabinet construction.
