Description: A fine George II carved walnut and needlework footstool. The walnut frame with traditionally pegged corners, with a shaped apron and applied carved walnut shell decoration to the long side of the frame. The stool is supported by four walnut cabriole legs with a carved knee and trailing flower, with a bold ball and claw foot. The drop in seat is upholstered with an associated, but contemporary to the stool, English floral needlework, featuring strong earthy colours of red, greens and blues.
Further Information: This stool epitomises a classic piece of British furniture from the early to mid 18th century. Elegant simplicity of design and yet retaining a pure form. Stools of this period came in a variety of shapes and sizes yet this piece stands out because of it?s unfussy elegance.
Condition: Excellent. Minor restorations, waxing. The associated English needlework with minor restorations and of contemporary period to the stool.
