Description: A fine and important George III Hepplewhite period carved mahogany and marquetry serpentine concertina action card table. The mahogany serpentine top with front re-entrant corners, fluted frieze edge, a central marquetry circular patterae, unusual husk marquetry corners and cross-banded in satinwood. The top opens to reveal a green baize lined playing surface and is supported by a concertina action. The frieze in flame mahogany with carved central detailing and carved fluted lower edge. The table is supported on fine cabriole legs with leaf carved hips and toes with carved detailing throughout. A delightful, superb quality piece illustrated in the Moss Harris Centenary book.

Further Information: Moss Harris & Sons were established in 1868 as a second hand furniture shop in the New Oxford Road and quickly grew to become Britain's premier fine antique furniture dealer by the end of the First World War. By the 1930's Moss Harris was so well known with an international clientele that he was publishing definitive books about aspects of fine English furniture. Moss Harris remained active in the business till is death in 1941 aged 84. The business was continued by his sons George and Sidney who both died unexpectedly at a young age and thence on to Moss Harris's grandchildren who in 1968 produced the Moss Harris Centenary book to commemorate the very best pieces that the company had dealt in over the last 100 years.

Condition: Excellent. Minor restorations, waxing. The baize playing surface replaced.
