Regency Rosewood breakfront side cabinet attributed to Gillows of Lancaster

Description: A fine Regency rosewood breakfront side cabinet attributed to Gillows of Lancaster, retaining excellent original colour. The whole cabinet veneered with well figured rosewood, the top with banded edge, the frieze split into three sections an bordered by out-stepped rectangular columns with a gadrooned beaded lower edge with carved scrolled brackets. Centrally a pair of rectangular doors, with inset fluted silk and brass lattice work, bordered either side by a further silk and brass lattice door. All doors open to reveal a cupboard with adjustable shelves. The lower frieze with gadrooned edge, the whole piece supported by gadrooned bun feet. A particularly good example of this well known Gillows model.

Further Information: Gillows of Lancaster were one of the most celebrated of all English furniture makers. They were established in the early 18th century, pieces made by Gillows are of the highest quality, desirable and extremely sought after. This breakfront side cabinet follows closely to designs drawn in the Gillows workbook for this period.

Condition: Excellent. Minor old restorations, waxing. The silk and brassware to the doors replaced, previously with low brass gallery now removed.
