Description: A large, elegant and superb quality George II burr walnut & giltwood wall mirror of excellent original colour & patina. The rectangular, bevelled, mercury silvered plate bordered by carved gilt wood outline, with a burr walnut body, again bordered by a carved gilt wood moulding, flanked each side by a further giltwood flower and ribbon moulding.
The top of the mirror, has a pair of intricately leaf carved giltwood swan neck pediments each terminating in a flower rosette with trailing leaves. Inbetween these, sitting on top of a ball, a carved giltwood eagle crest with outstretched wings. Below, a giltwood archtectural moulding which surmounts a pair of giltwood brackets bordering a burr walnut frieze An impressive piece, with excellent presence and size veneered in the finest burr walnut throughout.
Condition: Excellent. Light re-fresh to parts of the gilding. Mirror plate 18th century probably re-silvered with the last 50 years.
