George I figured walnut bureau bookcase

Description: A superb George I figured walnut & feather banded bureau bookcase. The bookcase section with swan neck pediment, of shaped cavetto section, with cross & feather banded inset figured walnut panels, surmounted by three turned walnut finials. The beautifully made architectural interior with an arrangement of drawers, pigeon holes, and folio shelves with a central cupboard which is bordered by stop fluted column fronted hidden drawers. The bookcase is enclosed by a pair of shaped arch doors, with bevelled mercury slivered mirror plates.

The bureau section with a dividing cross grained waist moulding, with feather & cross banded fall opening to reveal a further arrangement of drawers, pigeon holes, and again with a central cupboard bordered by fluted column hidden drawers. Below a figured walnut frieze with a pair of retractable lopers, over two short and two long, graduated feather banded, oak lined drawers, fitted with engraved brass plate handles. The bookcase is supported on shaped bracket feet and has fitted brass lifting handles, to top and bottom sections. Exuding quality throughout in its construction, features and choice of veneers; the piece retains excellent colour and patina.

Condition: Excellent. Minor restorations, waxing. The external drawer handles are replacements.
