Description: A superb George II Irish giltwood and gesso mirror of fine proportions.
The rectangular plate within a foliate and flower head decorated moulded frame, the sides hung with swagged drapery and tassels surmounted by a broken swan neck pediment, with egg and dart moulding, flower heads and scrolling foliate decoration on a punched ground centred by a scrolling bell flower decorated cartouche.
Below, the shaped apron centred by a carved shell and flanked by brass articulated candle arms, and carved flower heads on a foliate carved punched ground.
This mirror has excellent proportions, fine detailing throughout and a very attractive matured finish to the gilding.
Condition: Excellent. Minor restorations to chips and small missing pieces of gilt. The overall gilding lightly refreshed in places.
