Description: An exceptional Irish George II Chippendale period Cuban mahogany serpentine concertina action card table of choice early veneers, retaining fine original patina and colour. The serpentine fronted and sided flame mahogany top has a crisp flower & ribbon moulding around the edge and opens to reveal a baize lined interior. The rear portion of the table pulls out, the sides follow in a concertina action and a locking slide with storage compartment is pulled into place to form a rectangular rigid base. The flame mahogany serpentine frieze with carved, gadrooned lower moulding and the table is supported by four elegant cabriole legs with carved scrolling flowers to the knees and finely detailed hairy paw feet. A wonderful piece of furniture of excellent proportions, standing particularly well. Both front and rear legs are fully carved and detailed.
Further Information: Although closely following a classic Chippendale design we give an Irish attribution to this table due to that countries typical features of gadrooned lower moulding to the frieze and the finely detailed hairy paw feet to the legs.
