George II Irish Cuban mahogany tray top silver table

Stock Code: 1927 - SOLD

Description: A fine George II Irish Cuban mahogany tray top silver table of unusual form, retaining excellent colour and patina. The well figured rectangular tray top with raised moulded edge and re-entrant corners. Below a central a frieze drawer flanked by two deep drawers fitted with brass scroll plate handles and a shaped apron, centred by projecting shells, with similar shells carved to each side and the reverse; on cabriole shell and bellflower carved legs with scrolling bowed trifid pad feet.

Further Information: Although at first glance this piece has the looks of a low boy, we think that it was commissioned as a silver or centre table due to the elegant lipped tray top and finishing to all sides, thus designed to free standing in a room away from a wall. The quality of carving and selection of timber is excellent.
