Lawrence Stephen Lowry -
A Group of People.
- signed and dated 1965 Oil on board - an unmistakable work by one of the 20th century's greatest British artists.
A worthy contender for cash placement instead of the more usual troubled times fair of bonds, precious metals and student lets.
This picture bought in the same year as it was painted from Lowry's
London agent, until recently it has not been seen in public for over 45 years.

With the current financial turmoil bubbling away in both the Eurozone and the
USA, with the credit rating of the world's largest economy being downgraded and
government bonds in some of Europe's major countries being effectively given
junk status, the jitters are rightly pulsing the veins of traders and investors
alike.
Will my savings be trashed by some hothead at the bank belligerently trading with
my hard earned cash, or my pension fund manager, throwing it all to the wall and getting
into cactus flowers rather than the few remaining stocks that remain worthwhile
investments? Who knows he or she might play it safe and put it all into gold,
right at the top of the market. Reality tells that there are many factors in
play to successful and enjoyable investing, but we are going to take a quick
look at the second part of that statement - enjoyable!
Antiques & Fine Art is a boring pursuit for people who like lots of clutter and
old things lying around their house - well that's what some of our younger
countrymen may think. The large umbrella covering the term "Antiques & Fine Art"
does not mean clutter, it means wonderful things created by artists and
craftsman, with skills that often surpass anything today. Paintings, clocks,
furniture, porcelain; just about anything that oozes quality and that a
person has created as a labour of love, skill and devotion. Things that can be
appreciated for the genius and skill of their creator, whether made or painted
350 or only 50 years ago.
This quality can be enjoyed for generations, and I will re-iterate - enjoyed.
Art & Antiques are not just a piece of paper locked away in a safe or a gold bar
in a vault. Art & Antiques could be something that is hanging on your wall or
standing in the corner of your living room, admired and loved every day.
Finally, when it is decided that it is time to part with something, it may well
be that the particular painting, piece of furniture or timepiece will be worth
considerably more than when originally acquired, quality always shines
through fashion. An imploding market maybe, there is however an alternative.
