Description: An exceptional pair of George III carved giltwood serpentine window seats possibly by Thomas Chippendale. The scroll shaped arms with carved and moulded fluting, tightening into a flower patterae at the elbow. The front rail again carved and moulded and serpentine shaped in both horizontal and vertical profile and with a central leaf pattrrae. The slim cabriole shaped legs again moulded with carved hips and neat round point toes. The back rail again with serpentine vertical profile and straight horizontal, gain moulded and carved with a central leaf patterae.

A particularly elegant pair of window seats, in fine condition throughout.

Further Information: The window seats compare closely to an example attributed to Thomas Chippendale, made for the Earl of Harewood, Harewood House, near Leeds. Chippendale also supplied twelve armchairs and six window seats to Sir Robert Burdett, for Foremark Hall, Derbyshire (see ‘Thomas Chippendale and Foremark Hall’, Anthony Coleridge, Furniture History, 1997, Vol.XXXIII., pp. 136-141.)

Provenance: From the estate of Irene Korhumel, New York.

Origin & Age: English, George III, circa 1770

Condition: Excellent. The seats have been completely stripped of upholstery, joints tightened, re-gilded and re-upholstered, covered in a green 18th century period pattern fabric.
