A fine English George III, Hepplewhite period mahogany armchair in the French taste. The curved upholstered back, with gently out-swept arms, with scroll carved hand holds and carved moulded arm supports. The upholstered chair section with serpentine shaped front and scrolling floral carved apron all around. The chair is supported by front moulded cabriole legs with carved knees and rear moulded cabriole legs. A fine piece of furniture, of superb quality throughout, newly recovered in a blue “Gainsborough” silk fabric.

A very similar chair was depicted in the June 1964 edition of “The Connoisseur” magazine as part of the exhibited stock of Messers Mallet & Co at the Grosvenor House fair in the same month. The chair we are offering here is the same shape yet with more detailed carving to the front legs and apron.
