Vanity is an evocative study of beautiful young girl sitting on crumpled satin admiring her naked form in a mirror, delicate and charming this image must rank among the top of Webster's work. Born in 1878 Webster specialised in painting portraits and study's of young ladies in a soft, gentle atmospheric manner. His style was predominately modern British and he was a contemporary of the likes of L S Lowry and Sir William Russell Flint.
Provenance ► Exhibited Royal Institute, London First Summer Exhibition, 1936, thence to a private collector in London. Also has the remains of a Royal Academy exhibition label verso.
