Artist's Resale Rights (ARR)
FEEDBACK from dealers shows that the Artist’s Resale Right (ARR) has caused serious problems since its introduction in the UK two years ago. In a  independent study published this week, the industry warns that the British art market risks losing business, and that emerging artists, who are already losing out under the measure, will suffer further unless significant changes are made.

The Artist's Resale Rights, applies to living artists and states that the original artist is to be paid a percentage of the re-sale value, when one of that artist's work's are sold on again.

Top of the list for review is the proposal to extend the right to the estates of artists who have been dead for less than 70 years. The study shows that if this happens in 2012, as is planned, payments under the scheme will increase fivefold, along with bureaucracy.

Many dealers have said that, under these circumstances, they will move any transactions for qualifying artists to countries – predominantly the USA and Switzerland – where the ARR does not apply. Such a move would seriously damage British art market interests.

We watch with interest the developments in this arena, most of our customers are not affected as yet, however with the introduction of rights for 70 year old estates, this could become a factor when selling works conceived in the mid 20th century.
BADA Fine Art & Antique Fair
Our first sojourn to the BADA fair has proved to be a great success. With gales on Monday and Tuesday to contend with and the possibilities of the marquee, elegantly constructed in Duke of Square, getting airborne, these storms did nothing to "blow away" visitors enthusiasm. Generally regarded as one of the best looking fairs in the UK and even on a par with Grosvenor House, Millington Adams, hope to be returning again next March.
Antiques for Everyone - NEC, Birmingham
Straight after the BADA Fair in London, two weeks later is Antiques for Everyone, held in Hall 17, 18 & 19 of the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham from the 27th to 30th March 2008. A different event to BADA,  with a mix of quality dealers in section 1 and a huge selection of everything in Section 2. Millington Adams will be exhibiting a great selection of period furniture, clocks and art on stand C1 just inside the main entrance. We hope you can make it along.

If you do not have a ticket, we can leave one on the door for you. Just call 07957 382381 on the day of your visit and we will make sure there is a ticket waiting.
