Yet another reason to buy from a quality vetted fair
|
In an article that made the front page of April 6th
Sunday Times, it was alleged that a dealer in London had sold as genuine
antiques, objects that were largely the creation of his restorer. Photographs
appeared in the paper of a piece that was cannibalised to produce a another one
which was
described as Italian, early 19th century .
The BADA's code of practice says that for an item to be sold as antique it should be "in substantially the same condition as when originally made" and "not added to or altered to any material extent".
When dealers attended quality vetted fairs, all stock is thoroughly checked by
a team of as many as 10 vetters in each discipline, for
authenticity. Any restorations must be within the strict vetting guidelines,
which will specify exactly what can and cannot be done to a piece. What is
allowed generally is restoration or replacement of parts which will naturally
wear or deteriorate with the age of the piece.
All stock what we sell at Millington Adams is bought with originality and authenticity
in mind.

Problems accessing www.millingtonadams.com
|
We have heard from several
customers that they are having problems accessing our website. It appears when
typing in our address www.millingtonadams.com, that Internet Explorer gets "stuck" and will not access our home page. We think this is confined to machines running Windows Vista and is due to new super security measures that Microsoft has
implemented. Our site uses what is called "active content" which allows us to run the gallery and zoom facilities, we do have a fix for this so if anyone is having access problems please e-mail sales@millingtonadams.com and we will send you a step by step guide to changing the settings in Internet Explorer to make us visible again. This is a known problem and
apparently Microsoft and Adobe are working to find a cure.
