To our website. Millington Adams endeavour to bring you the finest pieces of British period antique furniture. Inspired by people like Thomas Chippendale, Sheraton, Hepplewhite, and made by cabinet makers such as Gillows of Lancaster, Mayhew & Ince, Old & Ody, John Coxed, together with a large selection of Georgian longcase and bracket clocks, objéts d'art, and paintings from the 19th and 20th century.

We acquire stock that is in as original condition as we can find, we perform restoration or conservation work where necessary, sympathetic with the age and style of the piece, ensuring that the original patina and look of the furniture, painting or clock is preserved as much as possible. We believe that an antique should show to a certain extent it's age, we do not "over restore" pieces which perhaps could lead to confusion with a modern reproduction.

We are elected members of the British Antique Dealers Association, the premier trade association for the UK's top dealers. Our stock is selected and offered with quality and originality in mind,  from the best artists, cabinet makers, clockmakers and sculptors of the time; always attractively priced.

Shown here in the adjacent gallery slide shows are some of our recent acquisitions, click any image to view that particular piece, browse our site at your leisure, using the links on the top to lead to a index gallery for each type of work that we have presently available. Our stock changes daily, if we do not have available a suitable piece currently, then we will be happy to inform you if we do find something at a later date.

Clocks do the business in London
Just before Christmas one of the leading London salerooms had it's bi-annual clock sale. These events can sometimes be a bit of a lottery, with the very good, bad and sometimes downright indifferent on offer. This sale however featured a couple of highly successful lots. A Thomas Tompion quarter repeating bracket clock achieved a remarkable £240,000 and a rare 17th century architectural ebony veneered longcase by Ahasuerus Fromanteel made an even more remarkable £340,000. These rare pieces are obviously at the very top end of the scale, with very good examples available for considerably less.

The general consensus in the trade is that sales of top end English "Golden Age" clocks, that is those made between the mid 17th and 18th century, are doing well. Perhaps this is helped by the fact that in the UK clocks are free from inheritance tax. Here at Millington Adams we have just added a rare George II burr walnut bracket clock to the website and have a further three fine examples of Golden Age bracket clocks. We also have three very good longcases available.

Clocks for many are a fusion of art and engineering, sometimes this desirability may prove irresistible if you feel tempted please see our Bracket Clocks or Longcase Clocks page on this site to find out more.

2009 Catalogue

The BADA Fair. Held from the 17th to the 23rd March 2010 in the Duke of York Square, just off Sloan Square in London. With 2010 freezing it's way in, a new year dawns on the UK fair circuit. With the last event of 2009 at Olympia in London not setting the world on fire, we can look forward to the rebranded and American run London International Fine Art Fair at Olympia (LIFAF) in June 2010, with the promise of Maastricht like presentation, quality and stature. We shall have to see how it all turns out!

In the meantime though, there is one fair which many still regard as the best in the UK, the BADA Fair. This is held from the 17th to the 23rd March 2010 in the Duke of York Square, just off Sloan Square in London. With the demise of Grosvenor House, until we see how Mr Lester's summer Olympia performs, the BADA fair is regarded by many as the top UK Fine Art and Antiques Fair. See you there!
